Former Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp was impressed with Lucas Digne and Emiliano Buendia in Aston Villa's win at Everton on Saturday.

Buendia scored for the first time since August when he met Digne's corner with a looping header that beat Jordan Pickford and Andros Townsend.

It was the only goal of the game and one that ensured Steven Gerrard 's side got back to winning ways having failed to pick up three points since the middle of December.

Digne, in only his second outing for Villa, returned to his former club only nine days after he swapped Goodison Park for Villa Park.

The left-back was superb and his efforts were highlighted by the Match of the Day pundits in offering Villa width and Buendia was also praised for occupying the space in behind striker Ollie Watkins created by the full-backs.

Redknapp, writing for gambling firm BetVictor, picked out both players in his team of the week write-up.

On Digne, he said: “There was huge pressure on Digne returning to Goodison Park so soon after his move to Aston Villa.

“However, I thought he handled it brilliantly. He worked tirelessly and was at the heart of most good work down the left-hand side.”

Digne is Villa's first-choice left-back with Matt Targett immediately benched upon the arrival of the Frenchman.

Redknapp also picked up on Buendia's work-rate too, saying of the Argentinian: “That was a huge result for Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

“Buendia’s not the biggest, but you’d have a hard job finding a keeper that could stop that header.

“As usual, he worked tirelessly all game. He looks like a great lad to manage, and I’m sure Steven is delighted to have him.”

Buendia has endured a tough time since he was signed for a club-record £33million from Norwich City in the summer but has settled down under Gerrard and dovetailed well with Philippe Coutinho at Everton.
