Emile Heskey has been placed in charge of Leicester City’s women’s team following the departure of manager Jonathan Morgan.

Morgan, who led the Foxes to promotion last season, has been sacked following a pointless start to the season in the Women’s Super League.

City are bottom of the table having lost all eight of their games so far.

Assistant manager Michael Makoni and first-team coach Holly Morgan have also left the club.

A club statement read: “Retention of its FA Women’s Super League status is central to the Club’s vision for the long-term development of women’s football in the city.

  • Leicester City striker told he 'needs to look in the mirror'

“The Club feels a change in leadership is now necessary to give the team the best possible chance of achieving this in the remaining months of the season.”

Jonathan Morgan added: “This season has been disappointing, with injuries contributing to a difficult start, but we haven’t achieved the results we had hoped for.

“I wish the club, the staff and the players my very best.”

Foxes legend Heskey, the club’s head of women’s football development, will oversee preparations for City's next game against Manchester United in the Continental Cup on Sunday, December 5 as the search begins for a new permanent manager.
