Manchester United’s legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he has only missed management once since retiring.

Sir Alex retired as Red Devils manager in 2013, an incredible 26-years after he initially took over and made United arguably the biggest club in the world.

The Scot won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies on his way to being regarded as one of the greatest ever, but does not think he would have what it takes at the top level anymore.

And Ferguson has admitted he has only ever missed his former role on one occasion when Real Madrid played Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final.

When asked whether he still thinks he can do well as manager on Man United’s official club podcast, he said: “No. There’s moments if you’re vain enough to think that way.

“I made my decision because of Cathy’s sister dying and she was on her own, there was no doubt about that.

“I took Cathy to the European Cup final the next year when Real (Madrid) played Atletico (Madrid) in Lisbon and that was the first time I said to myself ‘God, I miss this’.”

“I went down to see (Cristiano) Ronaldo after the game and Carlo Ancelotti was their manager, a fantastic guy.

“He saw me in the corridor and said Cristiano is going to a medical to get tested so said ‘come in’ and all the players came to shake my hand. It was a really nice moment.

“That’s probably the only time I’ve said to myself I miss this, a big game like that.”

Ferguson finally called time on his career after winning his final Premier League trophy in the 2012/13 season.

United bounced back from losing the league to rivals Man City in devastating fashion the previous campaign to win a record 20 top-flight titles.
